I've decided to stay in D.C. and work on fighting industrialized animal agriculture, one of the most insidious evils of the modern world. I'm closing the bulletin board section of the website, but I will attempt to keep the other pages updated. Look for a final report on blackspot in a few weeks.

In the United States, over 10 billion land animals are slaughtered for consumption every year. According to a recent United Nations FAO report, industrialized animal agriculture is a far worse emitter of greenhouse gases than all forms of transportation combined. Concentrated animal feeding operations, or factory farms, are not your traditional family farm. They are literally mega-industrialized farms on steroids, and they are a major point source of water and air pollution. Factory farms have proliferated across the United States, destroying ecosystems and ruining small family farmers and rural communities. In fact, the American Public Health Association (APHA) recommends a moratorium on factory farms. Do right by yourself, your children, and the planet, by eating well, staying away from fast food, and boycotting all meat and dairy products from factory farms.

Raising animals for food is a terribly wasteful and inefficient use of resources, including water, land, and grain. The extravagant levels of meat and dairy consumption in the United States are neither sustainable nor healthy. Fortunately, reducing our consumption of meat and dairy is easy and cheap, but the majority of Americans only lack the will to face this most inconvenient of truths. Hi Janet! Thanks so much for those kind sentiments.

I did move! Things are going well. And I'm so relieved that my cats have been able to adjust. They were crying the whole ride down though. Really broke my heart, especially as I had to trap them to get them into the carriers. I think the move was more traumatic for me than for them though!

I hope to keep in touch!
