These are some of the nurseries that I've bought from.

My Favorites

David Austin Roses - The direct source for Austin's English Roses. Catalog includes miscellaneous modern and old garden roses. All roses are grade 1, large, healthy bareroots on 'Dr. Huey' rootstock. Pricey.

Edmunds' Roses - Modern varieties on 'Dr. Huey' rootstock. These are healthy, fat bareroots with good, viable canes and massive root systems. Spring shipping.

Pickering Nurseries - One of the largest selections of roses in North America, especially old garden varieties. Well-caned bareroots on r. multiflora rootstock. Somewhat gnarly roots seem to turn in a hundred directions. But the roses are healthy and really take off when planted. Multiflora is a vigorous understock that grows well anywhere, even when competing with nearby shrubs and tree roots. Spring shipping.

S&W Greenhouse - 3-gallon potted roses that will give your local nurseries a run for their money. Very healthy, sturdy specimens will be quick to establish. In order to ship such large plants, the packaging is extremely secure. You might need a crowbar to open them! Mostly modern varieties, including Romanticas. Ships spring and summer.

Warning! Might Annoy Cat!

Uh-oh. Klimky is annoyed.

Hortico Nurseries - I like the fact that fall bareroots are not coming from cold storage. All of the bareroots I received looked very healthy and had good roots. The canes were very green and had none of the dieback and canker you get on spring bareroots. Unfortunately, Hortico has earned its reputation for sending mislabeled plants. For one order, they might have actually sent me plain understock! They have some gems in their catalog, but it's a crapshoot whether or not you actually get the ones you ordered. They ship roses for fall and spring planting.
